Pleistocene to Recent Sediments of a Rift Basin Carbonate Platform

Pleistocene to Recent Sediments of a Rift Basin Carbonate Platform

Internship Description

The objective of this project is to establish detailed lateral and vertical facies distribution data of sediments deposited during the Pleistocene and recent Holocene transgression on the Al Wahj Red Sea carbonate platform. Data on facies distributions are to be correlated with physical conditions of the platform such as water depth, storm and tidal currents, water quality (salinity & temperature), etc.

Deliverables/Expectations

The findings will be translated into templates to guide future modelling of carbonate reservoirs.  Furthermore the improved resolution will assist in the exploration for hydrocarbons in the Red Sea and the assessment of discoveries during the appraisal process.
