Investigating Public Likelihood of Water-Reuse Uptake: Understanding Perceptions and Barriers to Treated Wastewater Adoption in Saudi Arabia
ApplyProject Description
This project investigates public perceptions and willingness to adopt treated wastewater as
a sustainable water source in Saudi Arabia. Utilizing surveys and focus groups, we will
explore awareness levels, attitudes, and socio-cultural factors influencing the acceptance
of water reuse. The goal is to identify barriers and inform educational campaigns and
policies to promote the safe and effective reuse of treated wastewater. This research aims
to support sustainable water management and enhance public health outcomes in the
region.

Desired Project Deliverables
The project will deliver a comprehensive survey data collection, capturing public awareness
and attitudes towards treated wastewater. Additionally, insights will provide an
understanding of socio-cultural factors and concerns. These findings will be summarized in
an analytical report.
Deliverables could include an educational campaign framework to address misconceptions
and promote benefits. Policy recommendations will be formulated to guide local
authorities. The project could also produce a research paper for a peer-reviewed journal and
a stakeholder engagement plan to ensure ongoing community involvement. This work will
also be supported by a scoping review of existing sanitation systems and technologies for
water reuse, along with best practices for implementation and uptake, to provide a
comprehensive foundation for promoting treated wastewater adoption.
